but i DID knit a gauge swatch

i knit up this simple yet cool 4x1 rib hat for dh using noro kureyon in a brown-grey-black colorway and it was waaaaay to big. so then i tried to reinsert the dpns a la laura's tutorial and deconstruct it from below and just redo the banding... oh, how clever i thought i was... unfortunately no one ever told me that you just end up with a hideously-tangled-and-overpriced-mess if you try that, ya foo! the whole thing ended up in the frog pond, sadly, and i've gotta start all over again. i will bounce back, i promise!

Oh, no! Is it because you were trying to unravel the wrong direction? I'm at a loss to figure out what happened. :( Will you at least be able to salvage the yarn?

saved the yarn (thank goodness) and rewound it - using my winder was the only highlight of using the kureyon so far. i'll give it a try again when he's not around, but i am going to measure his head again while he's sleeping just to be sure!

So the Kureyon was just a mess when you frogged it? Like a felted together mess? I'm curious about that yarn. The colorways are beautiful but I've wondered what it would be like to work with.
